'Twas the Night Before Christmas ... Coffee themed! Something special for all of you to enjoy this Christmas season.
Written and Read by Joseph Robertson
Twas the night before christmas
when all through the roaster
Not a machine was turned on
Not even a toaster
The bags they were filled
Of fresh beans with good care
In the hope to be enjoyed
By coffee lovers everywhere
The mugs were nestled
All snug on their shelves
Empty and unused
Even by the roasting elves
The head roaster upstairs
His guitar lay in hand
Had just settled in
To practice for the band
When up on the roof
There rose such a clatter
He jumped out and slid
Right down the ladder
Away up the stairs
He flew with a flash
Tearing open doors
He dropped all the hash
The streetlamps and glow
Of the marina nearby
Shown all that could be seen
Above and in the sky
He turned around to see
To his amaze and delight
The roaster stack smoking
Fresh coffee smell filling the night
Back down the stairs he ran
To his roasting chamber swiftly
And to his surprise
He discovered quite quickly
All the machines
He’d stowed with such care
Were alight and alive
As if awaiting him there
He shouted aloud
With great glee in his voice
“Now Diedrich! Now Mavam!
Now Technivorm and Acaia!
On Breville! On Chemex!
On Kalita and Baratza!
Fill up the roaster!
Pull me some shots!
Brew up a thousand batches!
I really need a lot”
Inspired by what?
The roaster, he didn’t know …
Until he saw standing there
St Nick, shaking off a touch of snow
With a chuckle and a laugh
The old man’s voice boomed
“Thank you my friend,
I knew I could count,
On your roasting prowess
To help me out
I’ve got a long list,
Of people who deserve
The wonderful craft
Which you live to serve”
And so together they worked
To fill up his sleigh
With fresh roasted coffee
The aroma flooded the bay
As the fresh beans
That were roasted went by
They bagged them, tagged them
And made them ready to fly
With the last bag stuffed
To the brim was his sleigh
The roaster gave ole St. Nick
One espresso to say
“Thank you for sharing, this craft with the world
It’s my hope that all will deeply enjoy these gifts
Made only possible by those who so often
Work dawn to dusk, their tale forgotten
And by giving haste to these beans you bring about
The possibility of deep human connection throughout”
Then Jolly Old Saint Nick embraced our dear roaster
He stood back and chuckled …
“My dear boy” he rumbled,
“We are all part of this wonderful gift together”
With a great grin he jumped to his sleigh
Gathering the reins with a jingle he flew away
Our roaster watched as he sailed out of sight
Old St. Nick shouting aloud “Merry Christmas to All and To All a Good Night!”
